Facebook Is Working On A Smart Speaker
Tech news page Phone Arena reports that Facebook is developing an artificial intelligence speaker for rivals Amazon Echo and Google Home. While this is just a rumour, the actions of the Facebook Building 8 team show it is heading in that direction. A team of digital technology and program developers were reportedly working on a device with video chat last week. That is, on top of the Amazon Echo and Google Home, which can only speak via voice.
Phone Arena also reports that the device is powered by the Android operating system. It's unclear why Facebook chose Android over their own operating system. The smart device will have a touch screen the size of a laptop screen, about 13.3 inches. This device will also embed a wide-angle camera lens, microphone and speaker for video conferencing.
Interestingly, the device will be powered by Facebook's artificial intelligence, Bob and Alice. In fact, just yesterday, Facebook scientists shut down a bot for their bullshit. Facebook confirmed that the AI project was not permanently shut down, but was paused for repairs.
According to the Phone Arena news page, a source within Facebook said the camera device is being tested in Facebook labs. The camera can automatically scan people around and lock focus on faces. It was previously reported that a 360 camera is in development. Is that what the camera is for? Facebook declined to confirm the news.
We just have to wait for the exact news that might be announced at the developer conference Facebook: F8 next year. In this case, Facebook usually announces their new technology.
